Buildings on The National Historic Register

For a number of years Augusta's historical buildings have been one of the reasons tourists visit that town. The significance of those buildings has been officially recognized with the placement of eight individual sites and three districts on the National Register of Historic Places.

Mimi Stiritz, an architectural historian who works as a preservation consultant, prepared the surveys which led to the listings. She has had extensive experience in this part of Missouri, having prepared surveys for a number of sites, including Washington, St. Louis and St. Charles. She noted that almost the entire town of Augusta could qualify for the National Register because of its German ethnic history.
